September 17 - Seminar 2

Hi all,

Thanks for your cooperation and input today.  You did a great job.  Here are my responses to today's question.  Feel free to comment or query.

1) I think getting parents' signatures at conferences would be nearly impossible because many parents to do come.  You need permission from the huge majority so a note home is probably the most feasible.

2) You should start working on your project immediately.

3) You need to respond to each week's blog.

4) The posting of all of the portfolio ideas is a good one.  However, that means someone would have had to write them down and be willing to type them up. I'd be happy to post them or email them to you - but I didn't write them down.  My assumption is that you write your own notes that are important to you.

5) If you're concerned about finding your school and driving time, I suggest you drive up there this weekend to be sure you know where you're going and have the timing down.

See you all Friday.

So, when do we actually create a e-portfolio? I believe that it is in methods, but I was a little confused when everyone started talking about getting pictures from a classroom. Do we start it in methods and then finish it during student teaching?

In EDHD 201, we were required to load a service learning paper into the E-portfolio, and then in EDTL 230, there was another assignment added to it as well. I am pretty sure Ed psych has you add to your portfolio as well, but I am under the assumption the majority of it will be done during methods?

You'll put it together in methods and then update and add more materials from student teaching. You'll be guided through the process and informed what to do as needed. You really don't need to stress about it.

I have several things added to the e-portfolio becasue different classes have different key assessments that go into it--but each teacher will tell you how and what goes in it from there class--i also have all my papers on my computer from each semester at BG just incase somethings missing later--but i transferd from Owens so i have hings missing cause i took 201 there and i was told its not a big deal and wont matter--so i dont think its anything to stress about now

I was wondering if it is possible to change the documents that are in our e-portfolio because some of my papers I have on their need some work before I use them.

During the interview process, should we have a paper copy of our portfolio or can we make a digital one instead?

Hi,

It is possible to change your documents. Actually, you'll have to because you'll update it during student teaching.

You can make a hard copy portfolio for interviews or you can just save it on a CD and take it with you.

For the e-portfolio, do we only put specific papers and assignments in there, or do we put the writing assignments for this class in there also? Will we need to save them anyways for later use?

I feel that I am behind because being a senior and this being my last semester before methods I only have maybe six items in my e-portfolio. Why don't all classes require key assessments? Or is not a big deal?

How difficult is methods? I have heard mixed comments.

I heard that in methods, early childhood education is a lot harder because they have to do "more". I think as long as you put the dedication into methods it should be pretty easy. I know I have heard, also, that having a job or trying to take other classes is a "no-no", but I think it all depends on the type of person you are and how much you're willing to add or put on your plate.

So, I'm going to Leverette, and my teacher also has a methods student in there as well. Is anyone else having an issue with that as well? or is it just me? I heard Diann Brown talking about it a little after class on Friday, but I didn't catch the entire conversation. For anyone who is having the same situation, what all are you guys doing about it? Just leaving it how it is or is there something we can do? I just don't want to be doing nothing in the back of the classroom that's all...

Please talk to me one on one if you have an issue with your placement or contact Rachel for a change.
