October 17, 2008

Hey all,

Thanks to the researchers who dealt with school funding.  You did a fine job and gave us plenty to think about.  There were no specific questions for this, but I think that might have been due to the format of the reflection.  Therefore I'm opening up the blog this week to your questions / concerns / comments about school funding.  I'll let you chat with each other, and then I'll come in and answer the questions directed to me later in the week.

I hope you have a great week.

I have another question, but it's unrelated to school funding. I really like my teacher that I've been assigned to for my field experience. In methods, can you request a specific teacher to work with?

Hi Kristen,

You can request, but there's absolutely no guarantee that it will happen.

I think that the group that presented on school funding did a great job! There was so much I did not know about it and I feel like it is a very important issue for me to look at as a future educator. I thought the most interesting part of the presentation was the two stations dealing with cutting things due to lack of funding. I never even thought about it, but it makes sense that transportation would be the first to go because that is exactly what would get a levie passed. It made me really think so thanks guys!

I think that the group dealing with school funding did an excellent job!! They had great information and presented well! I personally found the definitions helpful. While I knew what property tax and income tax were, it was nice to have a broken down definition and have why they were important to the school explained to us!

I agree I think the school funding presentation was great. It's a huge issue that I've been concerned about and it really taught me a lot. I had fun doing the activity, because I was a "community" person, so it was fun putting myself in their shoes;however, it really opened my eyes to the negative perspectives probably a lot of community members have towards funding. Anyways, See you tomorrow!

i thought it was interesting when they talked about Ohio being taken to court five times--I had heard that Ohio was unconstitutional in the way they fund schools but I people rarely believe me when I tell them so it was interesting to here more about it--especially with the elections coming up and not understanding much about the funding situations.
